Water Supply

Water Supply

The water supply for the NPA is sourced from the Jardine River. Water is pumped 15 kilometres to the treatment plant in Bamaga where it is filtered and disinfected (chlorinated). Once the water is safe for consumption it is pumped to reservoirs at each community and then gravity fed to the community users.

The water treatment plant has the capacity to produce 5.5 megalitres of water per day - enough supply for an average daily useage of 240 litres per person - for up to 22, 000 consumers.

One five (5)- minute shower will use 60 litres of water - approx. one quarter of daily average supply.

Always be aware of water wastage, to help conserve our fresh water supply.
