Councillor for Seisia -Division 5, Brad Elu is a long-committed, community-and-family-focused resident of Seisia – with heritage as a historical settler family from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait.
A member of the Army Reserve’s 51st FNQ Regiment his duties have honed skills to help keep communities and borders safe, as well as assistance to support marine conservation efforts and combat illegal fishing.
Councillor Elu, in his role at NPARC is now also the Deputy Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group that will support local agencies in the NPA in times of emergency to ensure preparedness and community wellbeing and resilience.
Trained as a carpenter, Cr Elu has a background in housing and construction with roles from Northern Peninsula Area to the islands of Torres Strait and Northern Territory. His former roles at NPARC include property leasing and ferry operations.
His aim for community is to strengthen and maintain cultural knowledge and protocols, while ensuring adequate housing, health, education and economic development for the people of Seisia and the NPA.
Councillor Elu has a vision for Seisia as “healthy, wealthy, and culturally-driven - where heritage balances with sustainable development”.
