NPARC’s Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Umagico is passionate about gifting her time as a “volunteer for the community”.
Aligned with 28 years of senior finance and accounting roles in business governance at NPARC, Councillor Mary Yoelu has proudly also spent a lifetime of volunteer community leadership roles in local NGOs.
Currently Vice President of NPA Family & Community Services, Cr Yoelu also advocates for Region 1 (NPA) as a Director of Apunipima Cape York Health Council, a lead agency representing health needs of the people of Cape York. She also sits on the board as a Director of Gudang Yadhaykenu Aboriginal Corporation.
Committed to the health and wellbeing of the people of Cape York, her lifelong work has focused on helping to deliver high quality services to the community.
Originally from Seisia, of Saibai Islander heritage, Cr Yoelu moved to Umagico 29 years ago and has beautiful children and grandchildren descended from the Gudangyadhaykenu and Atambaya.
A self-described family person by nature, Cr Yoelu says her “family therapy” includes caring for horses, camping, gardening, fishing and watching local footy.
