Mayor Robert Poi Poi – Vision for NPA

Robert Poipoi was declared Mayor of the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council in the 2024 local government election and looks forward to “reinvigorate community development”.

A former co-founder and chair of community organisation Bamaga Enterprises Ltd, Mayor Poipoi was born and raised in NPA. A proud family man with a diverse family history - on his mother’s side are some of the first pioneers from Saibai Island. 

Originally a motor mechanic for the Queensland Government, Mayor Poipoi also enlisted with the Australian Army Reserves and still serves in the current rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 as a Patrol Master – 51st Battalion Far North Queensland Regiment.

Elected as a Councillor of the former Bamaga Island Council, he became Deputy Chairman from 1997 to 2004 - and helped to set up Bamaga Enterprises. Mr Poipoi also established an indigenous-owned and operated earthmoving civil construction company employing local drivers, operators and office staff.

He loves fishing, rugby, basketball and movies.
