Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council has adopted its 2025/26 budget at a special Council Meeting, held on 19 June 2025.
Speaking after the meeting, Mayor Robert Poi Poi said “We are very proud of our journey over the last 12 months to improve our Council’s financial position - and we are now confident of our financial future by adopting a sensible budget for the next 12 months.
“In July last year, the Queensland State Government appointed a Financial Controller, and a Governance Advisor, to assist Council to work through its challenges. At that time, the Council was almost $5 million in the red.”
“Fast forward 12 months and we are now back in the black and, by the end of next financial year, we should have $5 million cash reserves as a financial buffer,” said the Mayor.
“We thank the Queensland Government for providing NPARC with support over the last 12 months - and the Financial Controller, and Advisor, will finish their terms of appointment in July.”
On the adopted budget, Mayor Poi Poi noted that Council is delivering some major projects for the community over the next 12 months, including: -
