Update -16/7/26: QLD Health to continue mozzie spray program in Bamaga, and survey for detection of Asian Tiger Mosquito species..

 

  • Queensland Health continues the successful spray program in NPA until Wednesday, 12 August 2026 - focused primarily on Bamaga surveillance.
  • Earlier Surveillance (May 2026) detected 6 x species specimens - with no signs of carrying any tropical disease.

 

Next Step:

  • To ensure effectiveness of this program the NPARC Regulatory team will be assisting the mozzie team with the precautionary spraying activities during 21 July to 12 August 2026.

Schedule as follows:

Mosquito Spray program in Bamaga & NPA.

  • Mosquito harbourage spraying in Bamaga (main focus is to spray fringing vegetation): 21-29 July 2026.
  • Adult mosquito sweep-net surveys in all NPA: 21-29 July 2026.
  • Mosquito larval sampling and treatments yard-to yard in Bamaga:  4-12 Aug 2026

 

What community can do?

• Work with our team to gain access to properties - to eradicate any potential mozzies.

• Ensure your dogs are restrained and it is safe for the teams to get in yards.

• Be sure to cover up exposed skin when outside in the garden & empty any water lying around yards, where mozzies can live or breed ...
